Understanding the Project
What is a data center —
and why does it matter to you?
A data center is the power plant of the digital world.
Just as a power plant generates the electricity your home needs, a data center generates the computing power that modern life depends on — from paying bills online to receiving an emergency alert on your phone.
Inside, thousands of servers run around the clock in a secure, climate-controlled building. They store information, process transactions, and make it possible for businesses, hospitals, schools, and governments to function in the digital age.
Project Spero would bring this critical infrastructure to Spartanburg County — creating permanent, high-paying local jobs and generating nearly a quarter-billion dollars in tax revenue, without adding housing units or retail that would drive school enrollment.

Minimal Residential Burden
Unlike residential or retail development, this industrial facility does not add housing units or retail that would drive school enrollment or neighborhood infrastructure costs.
Responsible Energy Use
The facility uses existing industrial power infrastructure — separate from residential systems — and plans on-site natural gas generation to maintain reliability without grid stress. We commit to curtail power during peak hours.
Minimal Water Footprint
Advanced air-cooled and closed-loop systems mean water use comparable to a light commercial facility — no impact on residential water pressure, availability, or county water systems.
Full Regulatory Oversight
Every aspect of the facility is permitted and regulated by Spartanburg County, SC DHEC, the SC Public Service Commission, and the EPA — with oversight active from day one and beyond. In addition, we have established standards for utility and environmental impacts that are equal or higher than the S.867 bill (Data Center Development Act) currently being debated in SC General Assembly.
For Spartanburg Residents
What $249 million means
for our community
Every dollar of Project Spero’s tax revenue stays in Spartanburg County — funding the schools, services, and programs your family depends on. No new burden. Just a better-funded community.
Smaller Classrooms. Better Resources.
Over 30 years, the largest share goes directly to Spartanburg County schools — funding additional teachers, upgraded facilities, modern technology, and the kind of learning environment every local child deserves.
Better Roads. Cleaner Parks. Faster Services.
From road repaving and park maintenance to public health programs and emergency preparedness — this funding strengthens the everyday services Spartanburg families rely on, without raising residential taxes.
Faster Response. Modern Equipment.
Fire protection districts across the county stand to gain millions for new trucks, protective gear, and station upgrades — meaning faster response times and better-equipped first responders for every neighborhood.
Local Talent. Local Careers.
Funding flows to readySC™ and Spartanburg Community College, training the next generation for high-paying technical careers — so local graduates can find $100K+ jobs without leaving home.
Expanded Programs. Stronger Communities.
Libraries, community centers, arts programs, and senior services all benefit — giving Spartanburg families more resources to learn, connect, and thrive across every stage of life.
More Revenue. Same Tax Rate.
Unlike residential or retail development, this industrial facility does not add housing units or retail that would drive school enrollment or neighborhood infrastructure costs — just a net positive for the county’s tax base that helps keep residential rates stable for decades.
